NYCDOT Commission 3 piece site specific installation carved on site on Varick Street downtown NYC.
A commission to sculpt on site the existing granite blocks lining Varick street between Broome and Watts. The piece celebrates the infinite motion of the city. The site is located on the helix of the entrance of the holland tunnel, with the subway humming directly beneath. The granite blocks were recycled from the original foundation of the Willis Avenue Bridge.
An important aspect of this piece was the wonderful support of the residents of the community and the casual passerby. Everyone was excited and engaged in the process and truly inspired me to work through 103 degree July heat!
